Triumph of Love (Musical)

This musical is a romantic farce based on a classic 1732 Pierre de Marivaux French comedy (Huntington is performing the play in March). Independent and self-assured Princess Leonide is smitten at first sight by Agis, not knowing that he has vowed to kill her. The princess disguises herself as Phocion to infiltrate the guarded "men-only" compound where Agis has been raised to follow Rationalist Philosophy by his uncle and aunt. Mistaken identities, hilarious complications, deeply felt desire, and surprising romantic entanglements ensue.

In this conscious parody of the detective thriller, Agatha Christie delivers a unique blend of suspense and humor in an intricate plot of murder, police, drug addicts, invisible ink, hidden doorways and secret drawers. It is her second most successful play (744 performances). Clarissa, wife of a diplomat, is adept at spinning tales of adventure, but when a murder takes place in her drawing room, she finds live drama much harder to cope with. Desperate to dispose of the body before her husband arrives with an important politician, she enlists the help of her guests. Humorous complications ensue when they are interrupted by the unexpected arrival of wry detective Inspector Lord.

A coming-of-age one-act stage musical that concerns a peasant girl in the French Antilles who falls in love with a rich boy and makes a deal with the gods to save his life. The original Broadway production ran from 1990 to 1991, and the West End production opened in 1994, where it won the 1995 Laurence Olivier Award for Best new Musical. The 2018 revival won a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

AFD has obtained rights to this new adaptation of Little Women by acclaimed American playwright Lauren Gunderson.
